On June 14th, 2024 “Looking China·Youth Film Project·Guizhou” Screening Ceremony was held at Guizhou University. The event was organized by Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture of Beijing Normal University and Huilin Cultural Fund, with academic support from Film and Television Media Professional Committee of China Association of Higher Education, and hosted by the College of Literature and Communication of Guizhou University. The esteemed attendees included Xiang Yunju, Executive Dean of Academy for International Communication of Chinese Culture, Wang Jinrong, Vice President of Guizhou University, Wu Bin, Director of Guizhou Radio and Television Station, and Zhou Wenjun, Deputy Director of the Tianyan News Editing Center of Guizhou Daily Newspaper Group. The event was also attended byHe Zhuping, Dean of the School of Arts at Guizhou Qiannan College of Science and Technology, along with relevant leaders from the Publicity Department of the Party Committee, Office of Student Affairs, Graduate School, Office of International Relations, and College of Literature and Communication at Guizhou University, as well as Chinese and foreign teachers and students from the project team, graced the occasion with their presence.
The screening ceremony featured a total of ten documentaries created collaboratively by ten young directors from the United States, Mexico, Romania, Sri Lanka, Slovakia, and other countries, along with Chinese producers.
Xiang Yunju, on behalf of the organizers, highlighted the importance of cultural exchange as a bridge for mutual understanding and respect among different countries, and highly commended the event.
Wang Jinrong, on behalf of the organizing unit, delivered a speech, expressing support and expectations for the creative work of young students from China and abroad. He emphasized that young students were an important force in cultural exchange, and their creativity and passion could bring new elements and momentum to cultural exchanges.
During the screening event, ten documentaries were shown, and the audience watched the documentary “Heart and Soul”, recalling the creative journey of 10 young artists from China and abroad, and experiencing the unique cultural charm of Guizhou. Following this, experts invited to the screening ceremony provided professional critiques of the films. Zhou Wenjun, Wu Bin, and He Zhuping pointed out during the critique that these ten documentaries, through visual art, each start from different themes and perspectives, creating a cross-cultural resonance and telling the cultural stories of Guizhou.
During his speech, the foreign mentor Geoff Poister expressed gratitude to all the young participants, both Chinese and foreign, for their hard work in this event, and acknowledged the achievements made. He said, “I believe that through everyone's creative works, it will bring more inspiration to cultural exchange activities between China and foreign countries!”
The “Looking China·Youth Film Project” is a cross-cultural communication activity with significant influence both domestically and internationally. The “Looking China·Guizhou” event promotes cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. Through the power of imagery, it also allows more people to understand Guizhou and China, collectively writing a new chapter in cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.
