Seminar on New Mechanism of Collaborative Education Held at GZU

On May 21st, Guizhou University hosted the 2024 New National College Entrance Examination Reform Seminar and the Forum on Transition of Secondary-College Education under the Background of New National College Entrance Examination Reform. The forum, themed Collaborative Education, Shared Successbrought together officials from education bureaus across cities and prefectures in Guizhou Province, as well as principals from more than 40 secondary schools. They discussed and explored issues such as how high schools and universities can adapt to the new national college entrance examination reform, and the mechanisms for collaborative education between high schools and universities.

Zhou Jin, Member of theParty Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Department of Education of Guizhou Province, Yang Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of GZU, Zhang Jie, Deputy Secretaryof the Party Committee of GZU, and heads of relevant departments attended the conference. Zhang Dalin, Vice President of GZU presided over this conference.

Zhou Jin stated in his speech, “Since the 18th CPC National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping has conducted a series of strategic decisions and adjustments concerning education nationwide, particularly in basic education. This conference marks Guizhou University’s initiative in addressing how to cultivate local talents and enhance the connection of talent cultivation between universities and high schools in Guizhou. It reflects Guizhou University’s commitment to its mission and responsibility, as well as the collective determination of universities and high schools across the province to contribute jointly to talent cultivation for both our nation and GuizhouProvince”.

Zhou Jin stated his expectations to the participants from four aspects: “integration of educational platforms”, “integration of educational goals and methods”, “integration of university majors and high school curricula” and “maintaining the original intention of education”. He stressed that universities and high schools across the province should delve deeply into fundamental educational issues: what kind of individuals to cultivate, how to cultivate them, and for whom to cultivate them. He urged participants to take this forum as an opportunity to discuss the development of education in Guizhou. The focus will be on fostering talents who can contribute to the nation and society through enhanced collaboration between universities and high schools, thereby enhancingthe economic and social advancement in Guizhou.

 “Educational development is a critical priority for the Party and the nation. Achieving high-quality education and cultivating highly skilled talents are crucial missions for educators today”, said Yang Wei. “Secondary schools and universities are the backbone of education. It is of great significance to ensure effective connection between secondary education and higher education and to improve the quality of talent cultivation.

Yang Wei outlined Guizhou University’s perspectives on “Collaborative Education, Shared Success” to the attendees from three aspects. She emphasized that Guizhou University boasts robust faculty, abundant teaching resources, excellent teaching conditions, and favorable campus environment, all of which provide essential support for students’ learning, growth, and development. She looks forward to collaborating with participants to nurture and recommend more outstanding students for Guizhou University, establish more high-quality student recruitment bases, and cultivate more outstanding talents for Guizhou Province and the country.

Zeng Qiang, principal of Guiyang No. 1 High School, Ye Naijun, principal of Zunyi Nanbai High School, and Qiao Xiaonan, principal of High School Affiliated to Guizhou University, respectively delivered speeches on the following topics: “Practices andReflections on Cultivating Innovative Talents in Secondary Education”, “Strengthening the Connection between University and Secondary Education to Facilitate the Path of Talent Cultivation”,“UtilizingResource Advantages, Enhancing Publicity on Education, and Nurturing Outstanding Talents”.

At the conference, Zhang Jie provided an overview of Guizhou University focusing on faculty development, academic disciplines, international exchanges, innovation and entrepreneurship, and student employment, as well as recent trends in student enrollment. Representatives from Guizhou University, including faculty and student, delivered speeches, and participants exchanged their views and insights on fostering collaborative education.

This conference aims to further implement the guidance of the provincial conference on high-quality development of higher education, to further promote the effective transitionbetween university and high school education, and explore a collaborative educational frameworkwhich can better adapt to the reform of the national college entrance examination.
