New Breakthrough: Guizhou University's Earth Sciences Joined Top 1% of ESI Global Rankings

Clarivate Analytics recently released statistical data covering January 1, 2014, to February 29, 2024, highlighting a significant achievement for Guizhou University: The Earth Sciences discipline has entered the top 1% of the ESI global rankings. This achievement brings the total number of Guizhou University disciplines in the ESI top 1% to seven, including Chemistry, Plant and Animal Science, Engineering, Agricultural Science, Environment and Ecology, Materials Science, and Earth Sciences.

The ESI (Essential Science Indicators) database, which analyzes and evaluates research trends based on the Web of Science core collection, ranks the research performance of institutions in the top 1% across 22 fields worldwide.

In the latest ESI rankings, Guizhou University made a significant advance, climbing 110 places in the global comprehensive ranking compared to the previous period. The university’s ranking among mainland Chinese universities also improved by four places. It now boasts 210 highly cited papers, with all ESI metrics showing robust growth.

In recent years, Guizhou University has actively responded to the national call for "Double First-Class" initiative (first-class universities and disciplines initiative). Supported by the Guizhou provincial policy to "Build a Stronger Guizhou University," the university has continuously deepened its efforts in discipline construction and talent cultivation. Particularly in the field of Earth Sciences, the university has leveraged its strengths by focusing on national energy security and Guizhou’s strategic initiative of “Fine Development of Rich Mineral Resources”. This emphasis on cutting-edge and key technological areas has provided strong support for the university’s "Double First-Class" initiative.
