27th Chinese College Tennis Championships Southwest Division Kicks Off at GZU

On May 10, the 27th Chinese College Tennis Championships Southwest Division commenced at Guizhou University (GZU). The opening ceremony featured notable figures including GZU vice president Chen Xiangsheng, and An Chunyuan, Chairman of Tennis Branch of Federation of University Sports of China. Also present were officials from Federation of University Sports of China, team leaders, coaches, athletes, and referees from various universities. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Huazhuo, Dean of the School of Physical Education of GZU.

In his welcome address, Chen Xiangsheng expressed his warm welcome to the attendees, and his gratitude to the leaders, guests, athletes, and staff present. He provided an overview of the university and emphasized that this tournament will enhance the competitiveness of college tennis, foster sports culture exchange, and advance the quality of sports programs in higher education. Chen encouraged the athletes to pursue the sports spirit of being “higher, faster, stronger”, compete with skill and excellence, and demonstrate perseverance, courage, and resilience. He pledged that GZU is dedicated to providing excellent service and support to make this event a celebration of competition, passion, and friendship.

An Chunyuan delivered an opening speech and officially announced the start of the tournament. He highlighted the fact that this is the first time the tournament is being held in Guizhou and commended GZU's thorough preparations. He urged the participating universities to familiarize themselves with the competition rules, athletes to respect referees and opponents while striving for excellence, and referees to officiate fairly to ensure the smooth progress of the event.

The tournament attracts 243 participants, including team leaders, coaches, and athletes from 27 universities across Guizhou, Yunnan, and Guangxi provinces.
