On May 8, a few days after China’s annual Youth Day (May 4), a reading session focused on the book Xi Jinping's Seven Years as an Educated Youth was held in Guizhou University (GZU)’s Yawen Building. Zhang Jie, deputy secretary of the CPC Committee of the university, attended the event and addressed the 40 plus readers from the GZU’s student body and staff.

At the event, Zhang emphasized the three-faceted value of the book, which is an account of the Chinese president’s experience as an educated youth in rural Shaanxi Province and reflections of this experience: as an inspirational textbook for the growth of the younger generation, as an informative guide book for young Communist Youth League cadres, and as a vivid presentation of a relatable example for today’s youths.

Zhang also gifted student representatives two other books: Xi Jinping and College Students (Vol. I) and Red GZU. She particularly highlighted the value of the former book, which she urged Communist Youth League members to study meticulously. She also encouraged the students to put into practice what they learn in these books.

Song Hongqing, deputy secretary of the Communist Youth League’s GZU Committee, guided the students in studying President Xi’s May 4 message to Chinese youths. The students on their part expressed their desire to follow the president’s example and take up their responsibilities as builders of China in the new era. They also staged a recital of the poem “The Youths of Guizhou University”.
