On the afternoon of April 3, the award ceremony for the “Harmonious and Beautiful Gui’an” Rural Planning and Design Competition for University Students, sponsored by Guiyang Rural Commercial Bank, was held at the West Campus of GZU. The event was attended by Huang Bo, Deputy Secretary of the Party Work Committee of Gui’an New Area, and Zhang Jie, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of GZU. Also present were relevant leaders and representatives from the Gui’an New Area Management Committee, Gui’an New Area Townships (Streets), and Guiyang Rural Commercial Bank, as well as faculty and student representatives from GZU’s Office of International Relations, Science and Technology Park, and College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
In her speech, Zhang Jie underscored GZU’s commitment to enhancing the theoretical learning and practical abilities of its students, and encouraged close cooperation between external organizations and the university’s colleges/schools to strengthen students’ practical and hands-on abilities. She emphasized GZU’s continuous efforts in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship competitions and promoting the formation of a long-term mechanism for education that utilizes such competitions. The joint establishment of an internship base for postgraduates in the field of urban and rural planning by College of Architecture and Urban Planning of GZU and the Gui’an New Area Urban-Rural Development Planning Bureau, as well as their joint initiatives in organizing industry-education integration activities, will have a continuous promoting effect on the sustainable development of disciplines related to urban and rural planning at GZU.
Huang Bo congratulated the award-winning students. He highlighted the crucial role of Gui’an New Area as a “engine” for regional economic growth, emphasizing that the new area shoulders significant strategic tasks regarding national development, reform, and opening up. He stressed that further implementation of the national strategy of rural revitalization and vigorous promotion of the exemplary advancement of coordinated urban-rural development in Gui’an New Area requires more participation of university teachers and students in its planning and construction practices. Moreover, he called for the close integration of the university’s teaching, research, and practice with local economic development, which would enable students to base their research on practical situations. He expressed the hope that GZU and Gui’an New Area will continue to deepen their cooperation for mutual benefit and win-win results.
At the ceremony, the attending leaders presented honorary certificates to the award-winning students. The winner representatives showcased excellent design proposals, and the attendees engaged in in-depth discussions.
