An Inaugural Ceremony for the Monument Honoring Luo Dengyi Held at GZU

On the afternoon of April 2, the inaugural ceremony for the monument of Luo Dengyi, the former Dean of the College of Agriculture, was held in the small square of Compass Hill on the South Campus of Guizhou University (GZU). GZU’s key leadership was present, including Yang Wei, Secretary of the CPC GZU Committee, Song Bao’an, President and Academician, and Zhang Dalin and Chen Xiangsheng, Vice Presidents. The key participants included Xu Leren, the former Vice Chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Political Consultative Conference, former Vice President of GZU, and former Vice President of Guizhou Institute of Agriculture, as well as Li Jianjun, the Chairman of the Social Construction Committee of the Guizhou Provincial People’s Congress and former Secretary of the CPC GZU Committee. Other attendees were members of Luo’s family, representatives of retired faculty and staff, key leaders from relevant departments of the College of Agriculture, as well as secretaries and deans of Yangming College, and current student and faculty representatives.

Xu Le Ren and Yang Wei jointly unveiled the monument, accompanied by the recitation of the poem entitled “Ode to Luo Dengyi, the Father of Cili Fruit (Rosa Roxburghii) in China” by the students from the College of Agriculture.

In her speech, Yangwei noted that the erection of the monument is to honor Luo Dengyi for his devotion in teaching and research in the agricultural field. His achievements and noble spirits are worthy of celebration. Teachers and students should take him as a role model and be loyal to the Party’s mission. It is vital for us to learn from Luo who has always prioritized the interests of the nation and tackled challenges head-on. Luo is remembered for his willingness to undertake various daunting task and lend a helping hand to others in need. Additionally, he excelled in his professional pursuits, which have been instrumental to the critical advancement in the progress of the university.

During the ceremony, Luo Xianda, Luo Dengyi’s son, shared his father’s life stories. He mentioned that his father had a deep affection for his country and had been working diligently throughout his life. As an educator, he had cared about his students from the bottom of his heart and dedicated himself to the progress of the college. Even before his passing, he had inquired about the university’s development, wishing the best for the prospect of the institution.  

In another speech, Xu Le Ren noted that Luo Dengyi is honored for his commitment for Guizhou’s education. With Luo’s spirit, he expressed his hope that every student and faculty member should learn from him to overcome hardships and work hard for the best outcome of the university.
