GZU Inaugurates Youth Talent Program and Hosts Science Popularization Lecture

On September 24th, Guizhou University became the launchpad for the Guizhou Provincial Youth Talent Program. Esteemed attendees included Ji Shizhi, Director of the Youth Science and Technology Center's University Collaboration Division under the China Association for Science and Technology; Huang Yuanhong, Vice Chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Association for Science and Technology; Teng Yingjie, Director of the Guizhou Science Museum; Li Xiaofei from the Provincial Education Department; Academician Song Bao'an, President of Guizhou University, and Vice President Wu Pan. Mentors and student representatives of the Talent Program were also present.

Wu Pan extended a warm welcome to the guests and students. He emphasized that the Talent Program, as a national-level initiative for nurturing backup talents for scientific and technological innovation, is an important measure that integrates education, technology, and talent. He noted that 2023 marks the program's inaugural year in Guizhou and reiterated the university's commitment to nurturing talents in alignment with the Party and the nation's goals.

Ji Shizhi praised the Talent Program, initiated in 2013, for its innovative approach in identifying and cultivating exceptional talents through higher and secondary education collaboration. He emphasized the program's principles of being interest-driven and led by distinguished teachers.

Li Xiaofei urged students to value Guizhou's rich cultural heritage and leverage the Talent Program's resources for academic and societal contributions.

Mentor representative Jin Zhichao inspired students with verses underscoring continuous learning and perseverance.

Student representative Wang Jinze expressed his eagerness to showcase his abilities through the program.

The launch was officially declared by Huang Yuanhong, followed by a symbolic presentation of flowers by students to the mentors.

GZU President Song Bao'an gifted science popularization books to the students.

Following the launch ceremony, Song delivered a lecture titled " Pesticides: Devil or Angel?", emphasizing the importance of understanding and using pesticides responsibly.

Other attendees included Xiang Song, Director of Academic Affairs; Yang Jing, Party Secretary of the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; and Zhao Junguang, Executive Principal of the Affiliated Middle School of Guizhou University.
