On August 31st, GZU hosted the China-ASEAN Xishan Sub-Forum on Regional and International Studies at its West Campus. Organized by GZU and co-organized by the University's College of Public Management and the Institute of ASEAN Research, the forum brought together experts, scholars, and students from research institutions and universities, both domestically and internationally. The forum focused on key topics such as "China-ASEAN Cooperation and Regional and International Research" and "China-ASEAN High-Quality Joint Construction of the Belt and Road Initiative." It was conducted in both online and offline formats. The forum aimed to foster pragmatic cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, addressing the complexities of the ever-changing global landscape.
Vice President of GZU, Zhao Liuyan, gave a speech. Attendees of the forum included Liu Hongwu, Dean of the African Research Institute at Zhejiang Normal University; Zhang Xu, Director of the International Division and Dean of the Foreign Language School at Guangxi University for Nationalities; Zhao Luoxi, Senior Researcher at Tencent Development Research Center; Zhuang Yong, Party Secretary of the School of Public Management; Zhou Jie, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages; Ma Hongmei, Dean of the School of Public Management; and Yang Da, Deputy Dean of GZU ASEAN Research Institute.
Zhao Liuyan noted that this year marks the tenth anniversary of the "Belt and Road" initiative and called for collaborative efforts to achieve innovative breakthroughs in this new era of widespread digital transformation. The world is currently experiencing significant changes, with both traditional and non-traditional security threats affecting us. Accordingly, it is necessary to include professionally-trained individuals capable of dealing with new issues. Over the past decade, China and ASEAN countries have been able to capitalize on potential opportunities and seek mutual benefits. Zhao concluded that this event could serve as a means for scholars from both sides to exchange views, share insights, and strengthen ties.
After the esteemed guests expressed their views, experts and student representatives also shared their perspectives. This sub-forum aims to create a platform for teachers and students from China and ASEAN universities to engage in exchanges and cooperation “Belt and Road” initiative and contributing to the shared future of the China-ASEAN community.
