China-ASEAN Xishan Forum on Cryptography and Data Security Held

On August 31st, 2023, the China-ASEAN Xishan Forum on Cryptography and Data Security took place at the East Campus of GZU. Key attendees were Wu Pan, GZU Vice-President; Peng Changgen, Chairman of the Board of the GuiZhou Computer Federation; Mao Shiwen, Director of the Wireless Engineering Research and Education Center (WEREC) at Auburn University; Wu Shao'en, Department Head of Information Technology at Kennesaw State University; and Zhang Yan, Professor of the University of Oslo, and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, the Norwegian Royal Academy of Sciences, and the Norwegian Academy of Engineering. Other key GZU personnel from the College of Computer Science and Technology were present, including Long Huiyun and He Fei, along with other experts, scholars and students from various sectors and regions. The opening ceremony was presided over by Vice Dean Tian Youliang from the College of Computer Science and Technology at GZU.

In his speech, Wu Pan highlighted the extensive history of GZU's computer program, which dates back to 1972. Over the span of 51 years, GZU has made significant progress and established several affiliated institutes, including the College of Computer Science and Technology, the College of Big Data and Information Engineering, the State Key Laboratory of Public Big Data, and the Guizhou Provincial Institute for Big Data Industrial Application. Wu acknowledged that these initiatives have played a crucial role in leveraging GZU's unique strengths in the field of big data. These strengths encompass various aspects such as fusion and integration, security and privacy protection, and blockchain technology and regional governance. These accomplishments have been instrumental in driving the digital economy in Guizhou Province. Lastly, Wu encouraged all attendees to contribute their insights and ideas to further advance the development of big data.

Professors Zhang Yan, Mao Shiwen, and Wu Shao'en delivered keynote speeches on "Frontiers and Prospects of Blockchain Research," "Adversarial Deep Learning for Indoor Localization," and "Security in the Rise of Machine Learning," respectively. They shared their latest research findings and unique insights into blockchain, indoor positioning, and data security, addressing real-world challenges.

In the afternoon's activity, doctoral and master's students from different universities shared their thoughts and exchanged ideas on a wide range of topics including privacy protection, security provenance, machine learning models, game theory, and differential privacy.

The forum focused on cryptography and data security technologies. Experts and scholars gathered to discuss innovative algorithms and solutions to promote industrial development, address challenges, and facilitate integration. The latest advancements in data security theories and techniques were presented, providing valuable insights for future developments in data-related research and integration. Participants are expected to benefit from these discussions in the long run.
