GZU Hosts the 3rd International Conference on Mountainous Agriculture and Green Plant Protection & the 2023 International Conference on Cooperation among Industry, Education, Research, and Application for Plant Protection in ASEAN Countries

On August 31, the 3rd International Conference on Mountainous Agriculture and Green Plant Protection and the 2023 International Conference on Cooperation among Industry, Education, Research, and Application for Plant Protection in ASEAN Countries were held at the permanent site of the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAEWC). The event was attended by more than 120 participants, including renowned experts from countries including Singapore, Vietnam, Pakistan and India, as well as representatives from domestic enterprises in the pesticide and plant protection field. Experts and young scholars from countries such as the USA and the UK participated online.

Song Bao’an, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of GZU, delivered an opening speech, extending a warm welcome to the attendees. He emphasized the crucial role of the CAECW as a vital brand for Guizhou in expanding its opening-up and promoting its high-quality educational development. CAECW significantly broadens the international perspective of Guizhou’s higher education institutions, enhances interregional scientific cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, and promotes regional prosperity. GZU’s plant protection discipline, with its consistent commitment to collaboration with ASEAN countries, has fostered excellent faculties and nurtured numerous outstanding international students. President Song stressed GZU’s dedication to promoting collaborative education, hosting international conferences, jointly establishing research platforms, and accelerating the internationalization of the plant protection discipline.

Several important attendees also delivered keynote speeches, including Wei Qiwu, Director of the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center, Li Qingxiao, Professor of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering at the University of Hawaii and Deputy Editor of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, and Shan Weili, Deputy Director of the Pesticide Testing Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

More than 30 research experts and young scholars from both domestic and international institutions delivered academic reports. Distinguished presenters included Zhang Keqin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Yunnan University; Professor Mirza Barjees Baig from King Saud University; Li Zhonghua, Secretary-General of the China Crop Protection Industry Association; and Professor Zang Liansheng from the National Key Laboratory of Green Pesticides at Guizhou University. They engaged in vibrant exchanges and discussions, sharing new practices, achievements, and contributions related to plant protection in the context of mountainous agriculture development across different countries.

This conference was hosted by GZU and organized by the National Key Laboratory of Green Pesticides of Guizhou University. Co-organizers included the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center, the Pesticide Testing Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the China Crop Protection Industry Association, the National Bulk Vegetable Industry Technology System, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the Guizhou Provincial Department of Science and Technology. Themed “Green Plant Protection, Collaborative Innovation, Moving Forward Together”, the conference aimed to explore topics such as new pesticide formulation, green prevention and control of pests and diseases in mountain-specific crops, ecological regulation, and cutting-edge plant protection technologies.
