On August 8, the 21st National University Athletics Championships officially kicked off in Hefei, Anhui Province.
As of August 14th, the team of Guizhou University is ranked 16thamong teams in the C and D groups with a total score of 56 points. Athletes from Guizhou University achieved excellent results with 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal. Among them, Jia Zihan won the championship in the women’s 200-meter race of Group D, marking GZU’s first gold medal in women’s sprint events at the National University Athletics Championships. Li Renxiang claimed a gold medal in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase of Group D, and Tian Weizheng added another gold in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase of Group D. Zhu Xiaoqiang took home a gold in the men’s 20000-meter race walk of Group D and a silver in the men’s 10000-meter race walk of the same group.
On August 15th, in the women’s 4x400m relay, athletes from the College of Physics Education of GZU, consisted of Yang Dan, Chen Zhenqin, Huang Ruyue, and Ji Xinping, achieved the seventh place in Group C with 4 minutes and 4.7 seconds, representing the best performance by university students from Guizhou Province in this event at the National University Athletics Championships.
It is worth noting that the National University Athletics Championships, which has developed for over 30 years, is the highest-level athletics competition for Chinese university students. Outstanding world-class athletes such as Liu Xiang, Zhang Peimeng and Su Bingtian have all participated in this event. Remarkably, the current Championships attracted nearly 5000 athletes and coaches from 390 colleges across the country, making it the largest event in its history.
