On August 9th, the 3rd National Cellulose Symposium, hosted by the Chinese Chemical Society and co-organized by the Cellulose Professional Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society and Guizhou University (GZU), kicked off in Guiyang. The primary objective of this conference is to bolster academic exchanges and collaboration within the cellulose field, propel advancements in cellulose-related research, and elevate technical expertise and market competitiveness of China's cellulose industry.
The opening ceremony, presided over by the Research Fellow Zhang Jun, featured notable dignitaries such as He Li, Chairman of Guizhou Association for Science and Technology; Zhou Shaoqi, Vice President of Guizhou University; Fu Qiang, Director of the Cellulose Professional Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society; Liu Jian and Liu Qibin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Dean of the Materials and Metallurgy School at GZU.
Professor Fu Qiang delivered an inaugural address, extending his warm welcome to the distinguished experts and scholars in attendance and his gratitude to the efforts in the conference's organization. He underscored the role of cellulose as a vital biobased high-polymer material, highlighting its vast applications in sectors such as food, medicine, and textiles. His hope for the symposium is to bolster academic discourse within the cellulose domain, further the in-depth exploration of cellulose-related research, and contribute to the technological progress and market competitiveness of China's cellulose industry.
Zhou Shaoqi, on behalf of GZU, offered congratulations on the commencement of the symposium. He pledged full support and cooperation to ensure the seamless execution of the event and expressed his hope for the symposium to fortify communication and collaboration among universities and research institutions, propelling research and development in the cellulose domain.
Following the opening ceremony was the inaugural Award Ceremony of the Cellulose Professional Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society, honoring recipients with distinctions such as the Zhang Lina Award (Lifetime Achievement Award), Innovation Contribution Award, and Emerging Talent Award. Professor Xie Haibo from Guizhou University received the Innovation Contribution Award.
Subsequently, four esteemed professors delivered keynote presentations: Professor Sun Runcang, on "Deciphering the Structure of Woody Cellulose Biomass and Its Multilevel Cascade Engineering Application"; Professor Jiang Xiqun, on "Research on Assembly Methods of Natural Macromolecules"; Professor Yan Feng, on "Polymeric Ionic Liquid Gels" and Professor Xie Haibo, on "Homogeneous Biorefinery Platform: From Ionic Liquids to CO2-Based Solvents." These presentations disseminated substantial academic insights, unveiling the latest research findings and emerging trends within the cellulose-related field.
Over the course of three days, the symposium delved into various facets of cellulose research, spanning fundamental studies, applied research, and industrialization progress. It encompassed eight thematic sessions and one roundtable meeting, where experts and scholars will collaboratively explore the forefront dynamics and developmental trajectories in the cellulose domain. This symposium aimed to provide robust theoretical underpinnings and technical guidance for the advancement of China's cellulose industry.
