GZU Hosts Global Eco-Civilization Think Tank Summit

On July 8th, Global Eco-Civilization Think Tank Summit was held at the Guiyang International Ecological Conference Center.

Dai Bingguoformer state councilor, Long Yongtu, former vice minister of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and former secretary-general of Boao Forum For Asia attended the opening ceremony of the summit. Attendees also included Dong Jialu, vice governor of Guizhou Province , Liu Yanhua, honorary director of the National Expert Committee on Climate Change and former vice minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology , Chen Haifeng, former vice chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Liu Congqiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and former deputy director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China , An Yufeng, deputy director and secretary-general of School Affairs Committee, Peking University, Piao Shilong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries, and dean of the Institute of Carbon Neutrality, Peking University , Li Gao, director-general of the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China , Ma Kai, deputy secretary-general of the Guizhou Provincial People's Government , Wee Kean Fong, Deputy China Country Director at the Beijing Office of World Resources Institute , Zhan Yong, deputy director of the Department of Education of Guizhou Province , He Guangliang, chairman of Guizhou Phosphate & Chemical (Group) Co., Ltd., and Zhao Pu, president of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics. The opening ceremony was chaired by Wu Pan, vice president of Guizhou University and dean of the Institute of Ecological Civilization (Guizhou).

Focusing on “Advancing the Improvement of the Global Climate Governance System in an Uncertain World”, the forum invited government departments, research institutions, and industry representatives to jointly discuss topics such as “Roles of State and Non-State Actors in Carbon Neutrality”, and “Improving the Global Climate Governance Mechanism to Achieve Carbon Neutrality”. It aimed to showcase the latest research results of outstanding global ecological civilization think tanks, strengthen exchanges and cooperation among them, and promote jointly the construction of global ecological civilization to a new level.

Approximately 20 experts and scholars delivered keynote speeches and thematic speeches on topics such as “Role of the Carbon Sink Function of China's Terrestrial Ecosystem in Achieving the Goal of Carbon Neutrality”, “International Trade System and Global Climate Governance” and “Roles of State and Non-State Actors in Carbon Neutrality”.They shared their valuable insights and provided suggestions to advance global climate governance and foster a community with a shared future for humanity.

Wu Pan summarized the forum, stating that building a green earth is a shared dream of human beings, and maintaining a good environment is the common aspiration of people in all countries. The attendees achieved extensive consensus through exchanges and discussions around the forum's theme. New viewpoints and constructive suggestions were put forward, contributing wisdom and strength to accelerate international climate cooperation, promote green and low-carbon transformation, build a community with a shared future for all life on earth and enhance human well-being. It was hoped that participants would continue to promote exchanges and cooperation among think tanks through Eco Forum Global Guiyang, and that they would actively respond to climate change, to infuse new vitality into the new pattern of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature

This forum is one of the sub-forums of the Eco Forum Global Guiyang 2023.
