To celebrate the 14th “UN Chinese Language Day” and the 4th “International Chinese Language Day” initiated by the Centre for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Chinese Plus, the College of International Education of GZU held a celebration on April 21. This year's celebration was under the theme of “Chinese Language: Facilitating Dialogues across Civilizations”. Zhou Shaoqi, vice president of GZU,attended the event. The heads of the Office of International Relations, the College of International Education, the North Alabama International College of Engineering and Technology, and the Institute of ASEAN Research, teachers and international students were among the attendees.
Zhou stressed in his speech that the Chinese language belongs to both China and the world. The Chinese government has always taken it as China’s responsibility to support the teaching of Chinese in other countries. He said that Guizhou University attached great importance to the Chinese language learning of international students, and would carry out more activities to help international students better understand the excellent Chinese traditional culture and the rapid changes in China. He encouraged international students to tell Chinese stories and spread Chinese voices to the world, so as to build a human community with a shared future in the new era.
The celebration consisted of three parts, namely “Dance·Splendid East”, “Recitation·Ancient and Modern Romance” and “Song· Lingering Melody”. Nearly 200 international students from 47 countries experienced the unique charm of Chinese language and culture in the performances by international students from countries such as Russia, Togo, Equatorial Guinea, Sierra Leone, Pakistan, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar.
To celebrate the International Chinese Language Day, GZU will host a series of events including online lectures on Chinese medicine, offline art performances and exchange forums. During the events, new ways for the development of international Chinese language education will be explored and a positive atmosphere for international Chinese language teaching will be created to help international students to learn Chinese, tell China’s stories, spread the voice of China and present a true, multi-dimensional, and panoramic view of China.
