Recently, a scientific achievement “the creation and application of a new herbicide for the prevention and control of malignant weeds in rice and wheat fields”, led by GZU, was selected as one of the Top Ten Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements in Guizhou in 2022.
It is reported that the achievement is the study of the molecular mechanism of resistance of major weeds in rice and wheat fields to commonly used herbicides through the independent development of informatics tools and biotechnology. The creation of tripyrasulfone, a new type of p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate double oxidase (HPPD) class of resistant rice field herbicide and cypyrafluone, a new type of wheat field herbicide solved the prevention and control problems for resistant Echinochloa crusgalli (L.) Beauv and Qianjinzi in China's direct-seeded rice fields and weeds in the genus Mainiang in the wheat fields. The control effect of triazosulfuron and cyclopiazuron on Japanese wheatgrass, Chrysanthemum and barnyardgrass is more than 95%, and the pesticide dosage is reduced by more than 30%, so they will be widely used.
