On the morning of January 19th, 2023, GZU President Academician Song Bao’an and Vice President Chen Xiangsheng met with a delegation of outstanding alumni at Xianzheng Building on the West Campus. The delegation was led by Xian Zude, former Deputy Director and Chief Methodologist of the National Bureau of Statistics, a counselor in the State Council Counsellor’s Office, and an outstanding GZU alumnus of the 1977 Mathematics major.

Song Bao’an expressed his gratitude to Xian Zude and the delegation for their care and support for GZU. After a brief introduction of the discipline development, scientific research, talent cultivation, and talent introduction situations at the university, Song Bao’an highlighted some of the challenges currently facing GZU, especially the weakness regarding talents. He expressed the hope that alumni would work together with the university to attract more engineering talents to GZU. He urged strengthened communication with and professional support from alumni especially in the construction of basic disciplines such as big data analysis and mathematics.

Xian Zude thanked the university for the warm reception and congratulated the university on its 120th anniversary. He spoke highly of the rapid development of GZU and promised to actively play the role of a bridge between alumni and the university. He also committed to supporting the construction and development of disciplines, talents, new technologies, and other aspects of GZU, and to making greater contributions to the high-quality development and modernization of the university.
