On the morning of October 6th, GZU’s professional doctoral program of Resources and Environment kicked off in Xianzheng Building, West Campus. Vice-presidents Li Junqi, Zhou Shaoqi and Wu Pan, the leaders of relevant departments, doctoral supervisors and the students attended the ceremony.
Vice-president Li Junqi expressed his hopes and expectations for the college, the supervisors as well as the students in his speech. He said the college should innovate its management mode and set up more proper curriculum so as to provide better education for the students. He hoped that the supervisors would continuously expand their global vision, improve their overall quality and then enhance their social competitiveness. He also hoped that the students should keep in mind GZU’s motto of “Illustrious Virtue, Utmost Goodness, Extensive Learning, and Earnest Practice.”, and grow into the talents with broad vison, virtue and the sense of responsibility.
In the ceremony, Vice-resident Li Junqi presented the Letter of Appointment to the supervisors and the head teacher. Vice-president Zhou Shaoqi declared the list of class committees. Wu Pan, the head teacher, hoped that the students would learn from each other and grow together, take making contribution to the cause of the Party and the state as their ideals, and have the courage to tackle the engineering and technical problems in the field of resources and environment so as to live up to the time.
Fu Yong, vice dean of the College of Resources and Environmental Engineering, introduced the college in terms of its history, personnel, disciplines, researches and practical teaching. Dr. Liu Jianzhong, a doctoral supervisor and researcher of Guizhou Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, made a speech on behalf of the supervisors, saying that he would commit to improving himself and devote himself to guiding students; Qiao Wenlang, on behalf of all students, expressed their eagerness to learn knowledge and explore so as to make contributions to resources and environment research as well as the development of China.
The professional doctorate of Resources and Environment is GZU’s first professional doctorate Program and one of the key programs of the western promotion plan of the national professional doctoral education. With this new program, the College of Resources and Environmental Engineering will focus on researching major engineering and technical problems in the field of resources and environment unique to the karst area in Southwest China, and will become an important training base for senior professional and technical talents in the fields of mineral resources exploration, geological engineering, hydrogeology, environmental science and engineering, hydrology and water resources in Southwest China and Guizhou province. By doing so, the college will better serve the development of Guizhou Province, Southwest region as well as China as a whole.
