On the morning of May 27th, the Forum on Smart Education and High-Quality Development of University Education in the New Era was held at the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week Permanent Host Site. The forum was presided over by Li Jianjun, party secretary of Guizhou University and vice president of the Chinese Sociological Association.

In Li Jianjun’s speech, he mentioned the important speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his previous visit to Tsinghua University, in which he said, “The world-class university we want to build is a first-class university of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the target of socialist education in China is to cultivate socialist builders and successors who are well-developed morally, intellectually, physically, aesthetically, and have a hardworking spirit.” Li Jianjun continued, “During the 14th Five-Year Plan period from 2021 to 2025, we will strive to realize the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation by combining the CPC’s higher education theory and historical experience of practice with the trend of education reform and development in the new era. Now, the development of university education not only drives the global economy but also creates new ideas, trends, and technologies that benefit social reform. Smart education is a new direction for the development of university education, along with the informatization and innovation of education that is paired with the construction of the “three links and two platforms” (a program to improve access to quality education by developing education informatization). It is viewed as a pragmatic and easily applicable design for building a first-class university of socialism with Chinese characteristics.”

Qi Si, deputy director of Guizhou’s Department of Education, also spoke. He reflected on General Secretary Xi Jinping stressing that education is an important task for the country and the Party. So, we must keep in mind that our goal is to foster talented individuals that will benefit the overall development of the Party and the country. Our main focus is the cultivation of these first-class talents and build a first-class university system that will promote high-quality and advanced development of university education. To achieve this in the new era, we should, first of all, develop education based on informatization and modernization. Secondly, we should fully carry out the Party's educational policy, adhere to teaching from a socialist perspective, and develop a prodigious university education for students and researchers. Finally, we should strengthen the innovation of university education and follow the new trends in education reform that suits this new era. This will allow the country’s talented minds to evolve ideas and have the ability to build a modern socialist country, ultimately realizing the dream to bring about the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
