On April 2and 3, Guizhou University held its first Forum for Excellent Young Domestic and Foreign Young Scholars. The event was hosted by GZU Key Laboratory of Green Pesticide and Agricultural Bioengineering of the Ministry of Education, as well as supported by the university’s Program of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities for the green pesticide discipline. Both President Song Baoan and Vice President Yang Song attended the opening ceremony.
In his speech, President Song Baoan extended a warm welcome to all the young scholars attending the forum and introduced the history, development status and development vision of Guizhou University, the plant protection discipline and the Laboratory.
The forum was held locally and streamed to those abroad, garnering nearly 200 participants. The presenters included twelve outstanding scholars from several institutions, including Duke University, University of Basel, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology under Chinese Academy of Sciences, Southern University of Science and Technology, and nine young scholars from Guizhou University, with Prof. Hao Gefei, Prof. Jin Zhichao, and Prof. Li Shengkun among them. They presented a total of 21 academic reports, covering different plant protection topics such as rational design of pesticides, green pesticides creation, molecular targets for pesticides, synthesis of pesticide functional molecules, and comprehensive utilization of plant resources.
At the forum, President Song Baoan, Vice President Yang Song, heads of the laboratory, and several professors studying plant protection had further exchanges with the young scholars about the development of the plant protection discipline, green pesticide innovation, and team of talented individuals from Guizhou University.
This forum is the first young scholar forum held by the laboratory with the support from the national “Plan 111”, also referred to as the Program of Introducing Talents of Discipline to Universities. It aims to build an academic exchange platform for the cooperation between scholars at home and those from abroad in the field of plant protection. The goal is to share ideas and explore the cutting-edge advancements in the field. One of its other goals is to gather and further cultivate talented individuals within the Key Laboratory of Green Pesticide and Agricultural Bioengineering of the Ministry of Education at Guizhou University.
