From May 27th to 30th, GZU, together with the United States’ Henderson State University (HSU), held a number of musical exchange activities at the College of Music.
From May 27th to 29th, Chinese and American students from the two universities exchanged their musical experiences in a number of ways, such as taking classes offered by top musicians, sharing skills, learning from one another, jointly rehearsing, appreciating Chinese folk music and folk musical instruments, and holding joint concerts. On May 30th, a joint concert between the two universities was held at the College of Music of GZU.
Concert Attendees included: Mr. Tangi Utikere, Deputy Mayor of Palmerston North, New Zealand; Luo Changjiang, Deputy Secretary of the GZU Party Committee; Zhang Qin, Vice President of GZU; Hu Rui, Director of the P.E., Health and Art Office of Guizhou Education Department; Chen Xiaofei, Deputy Secretary General of Guizhou Education Association for International Exchange; Dr. Higgins, Head of the HSU Music Department; and Mu Weiping, Dean of the GZU College of Music.
Luo Changjiang and Zhang Qin presented certificates to the American teachers and students who took part in the musical activities. Following the ceremony, Chinese and American students jointly performed a number of programs, including "Stone Mountain & Fantasy", "Farewell", "Gnomes, Monsters, Fairy (from Gnomes and Other Twilight Creatures)", "Broken Heart", and "Dawn of Blue". The concert concluded with the song, "My Motherland and I".
GZU officially joined the Sino-American CHEPD 1+2+1 Program in December 2017. Music Performance is one of the cooperative programs. Through this interactive exchange event, GZU has not only strengthened further cooperation with HSU in the music area, but also explored a new model of open international education for China’s higher education in the new era.
