On May 7th, a meeting entitled “On-site Observations and Training Sessions for Tea Tree Pest and Disease Prevention and Control in 2019” was held in Fenggang County, Zunyi City. At the meeting, GZU signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the People's Government of Fenggang County.

At the meeting, participants shared their experiences of green prevention and control technologies for tea pests and diseases and also exchanged views on how to further apply green prevention and control technologies to tea crops across the province. Hu Jicheng, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Director of the Agricultural and Rural Affairs Department of Guizhou, and Academician Song Bao’an, the President of GZU, attended the meeting. Also in attendance were more than 150 key personnel from relevant sectors including the People's Government of Fenggang County and the agricultural bureaus of all levels in rural Guizhou.

Song Bao’an delivered a special report on "Building a Green Prevention and Control System and Building an Ecologically Clean Tea Garden in Guizhou." He noted that during the course of agricultural development, we should respect nature, advocate for green development, and be committed to making clean tea. In his perspective, producing high quality tea can guarantee a fast and healthy development of the tea industry. Therefore, it is highly important to promote the implementation and planning of green technologies for prevention and control. He suggested that everyone involved should work hard to incorporate green technologies into Guizhou’s agricultural industry. It is believed that, through these efforts, people in Guizhou will develop innovative ideas, set a good example, form a consistent method of operation, and eventually contribute to the green development of China's agricultural industry.

At the meeting, Song Bao’an signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the People's Government of Fenggang on behalf of GZU. According to the agreement, the two parties will cooperate in a number of varying areas including personnel training, industrial assistance, scientific and technological consulting services, scientific and technological cooperation, and the application of new products. In his remarks, President Song suggested that GZU should act on Fenggang’s needs for development and make the most of its resources while providing technological assistance and professional expertise. He hopes that these efforts will help accelerate the socioeconomic development of Fenggang and technology transfer at GZU.

The agreement highlights providing industrial advice and technical assistance, aiming to enhance all-around cooperation between GZU and Fenggang. Given the highly featured tea, beef, and chili pepper industry in Fenggang, GZU will first investigate the technology and expert resource needs for Fenggang’s agricultural revolution and then provide assistance in the following areas: 1) conduct a series of research in ecological plantation, green control and prevention technologies, tea multi-operations, and intercropping; 2) improve the quality of the tea in Fenggang; 3) increase the profits of tea per unit area; 4) improve the quality of beef and cut the cost of raising cattle in a bid to increase profits; 5) organize a team of experts offering expertise for the trial projects in a wide range of matters including the selection of chili peppers, centralized seeding, pest control and treatment, land multi-cropping and rural leisure trips and sightseeing; and 6) provide and promote models of planting across the county.

In light of 12 special industry advantages in Guizhou, GZU organized 12 comprehensive service teams this March in an effort to promote industrial revolution in rural Guizhou. Following the signing of the joint agreement, the service teams will work with local governments, enterprises and farmers according to their socioeconomic needs. It is hoped that, with the services they provide, they will play an active role in implementing poverty-alleviation projects across Guizhou, help local industries improve product quality and work efficiency, and help farmers scale up production and profits.
