On the afternoon of March 7th, Komatsu Michihiko, Consul General of the Japanese Consulate General in Chongqing and Nakano Momoko, Deputy Consul visited GZU and attended a meeting held in the Renwen Hall of the Chinese Culture Academy. Present at the meeting were: Wang Honglei, Executive Vice President; Deng Chaoyong, Vice President; and key personnel from Office of GZU, Office of International Relations, and College of Foreign Languages. Deng Chaoyong hosted the meeting.
Wang Honglei extended a warm welcome to Komatsu and the delegates. He remarked that the Consul General of the Japanese Consulate General in Chongqing and the Chinese students who returned from Japan have made great contributions to Guizhou’s education since the beginning of the last century. He spoke highly of the Japanese Consulate General in Chongqing for their educational efforts throughout the past 40 years. He believes that GZU will continue to promote exchange and cooperation with the Japanese consulate in Chongqing and play a contributing role in building Sino–Japanese friendships.
Komatsu noted that the Japanese consulate in Chongqing has been paying greater heed to Japanese teaching in Guizhou. He suggested the two parties should further strengthen academic and people-to-people exchanges. This year, Japan will simplify formalities for university students who need to apply for visas to promote further exchange between Chinese and Japanese students. He also expects that GZU will continue to play a vital role in Sino-Japanese exchange, and in turn, the Japanese Consulate in Chongqing will continue supporting the education of Japanese at GZU.
Participants present at the meeting held in-depth discussions on issues related to Japanese as Major, the appointment of Japanese teachers, and the allocation of international students. Everyone present agreed that they would make the greatest effort to promote friendly Sino-Japanese exchange and cooperation.
Since GZU initiated cooperation with the Japanese Consulate in Chongqing in March 2005, it has held a number of events for "GZU Japanese Cultural Exchange Week." This September, GZU will hold the "GZU 13th Japan Cultural Festival" as well as some other relevant activities.
