The Laser Technology Application Engineering Research Center of Guizhou Province is based on Guizhou’s No. 643 Document on Development and Reform Technology (2005), invested one million yuan by Guizhou Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and supported by Guizhou University. It is an engineering research center that integrates scientific research and development. The Engineering Research Center currently has one set of 5kW and 2kW CO2 laser processing equipment, five laser engraving machines and one 4kW CO2 laser cutting systems. Its laser processing businesses include laser heat treatment, alloying, cladding, welding, cutting, and marking.
The center has strong scientific research strength, with three professors, two associate professors, two senior engineers, four lecturers and engineers, six researchers with doctoral and master's degrees, one external academician, and one external 'Changjiang Scholar.' The center currently undertakes more than ten scientific research projects at the national, provincial and ministerial levels, with research funding of nearly 10 million RMB. The establishment of the Engineering Center provides a good platform for the cultivation and exchange of high-level talents at Guizhou University. The Center presently cooperates with the National Biomedical Materials Engineering Technology Research Center of Sichuan University and the Three-beam Material Modification Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education at Dalian University of Technology in the training of one post doctoral candidate, one doctoral candidate and eight masters students. The Center has accomplished the appraisal of four scientific research projects, two of which up to the domestic leading level. In the past five years, more than 200 papers have been published in national and international academic journals, with 150 included in 'SCI' and 'EI.' In 2010, 2012 and 2017, the Center won the third prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of Guizhou Province respectively, and obtained 20 national invention patents and two US invention patents.
The center will carry out various tasks in accordance with the model of “corporate management, market-based operation, and industrialization development,” push forward the application of laser processing in manufacturing, and promote the development of high-tech industries in Guizhou. The Center strives to build the engineering center into the largest and most influential laser material processing base in Southwest China within three to five years and upgrade it into the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center in 2021, contributing to the western development and the social and economic development of Guizhou province.
